Singer-songwriter Steve Harris announced today that he has been selected as a Finalist by Los Angeles-based InterContinental Music Awards (“ICMA”) in its annual songwriting competition. In fact, he is a finalist for not one but two songs he submitted in the competition. Blessed Are and In the Bulrushes – original songs from his recent Angel Band album – are in the running, contending in the North American Gospel/Contemporary Christian category.
Harris’s two songs and those of all entrants have been evaluated by a distinguished panel consisting of amazing music gurus who produced and wrote for acts like Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez, Bella Thorn, Westlife, Gloria Estefan, Celine Dion, Ricky Martin, and many GRAMMY® nominated artists as well as media and entertainment giants NBC, Warner Bros, MTV, Netflix, CBS, and Sony.
Entries in each genre and on each continent are judged on a 5-star rating system. The highest scoring entries in each genre and region become Finalists. Winners (selected from the Finalists in each category) will be announced on July 31 in an online awards ceremony.
From its beginnings in 2011, ICMA has grown to be a highly-regarded force in the music industry, serving as a vehicle for independent artists around the world in every genre to gain recognition. ICMA’s most recent success came in 2021 when Sangeeta Kaur, a prior year winner, won a Grammy for Best Classical Solo Vocal Album.
“This is a serious competition,” Harris said. “I am extremely honored to be selected as a Finalist. I appreciate the recognition not only of my work but of the incredible artists who worked with me in recording this music.”
Harris is a multi-award-winning singer-songwriter. Beginning in 2021, his compositions have received recognition and won awards in competitions around the world.
